    Hello creative geniuses,

I have recently imported some production stills into our project, and they open fine on one of our edit computers and not the other.

    Project is: XDCAM EX 1080p24

The stills are all JPEGs, in a range of very large sizes (4368 x 2912; 2888 x 2592)
Unfortunately I do not know whether they are RGB or CYMK, and we do not have Photoshop in the office.

I realize the photo format is not ideal, but I wonder why they open on one computer and not the other. On the latter, they all just display as a black screen in the viewer, and crash the project if I try dragging directly to a timeline.

    Any ideas much appreciated,
    Katie

Well, FCP has a 4K limit, so stills over 4000 will either flat out not work, or cause problems. Those will need to be resized to work properly in FCP. And if they are CMYK, they might not work at all, or cause problems. Why they work on some systems and not others, I don’t know. I have seen the same thing. But when they didn’t work it was because they were too big, or the wrong color space.

Don’t have Photoshop? Well, now is your excuse to get it. It is a BIG must if you are using stills in video production.

Thank you so much Shane. I’ve determined that they are RGB, so it must be the size.

    Appreciate your help 🙂
