  • John Rofrano’s Fade Script – can the fade type be changed?

    Posted by Dale Mcclelland on February 10, 2011 at 6:16 pm

    Via a search, I found a very useful script that John Rofrano posted quite some time ago for fading clips in and out:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/889033

    Is there a way to alter the script to change the audio “fade type” that the script applies? Or a second script to change all the audio fade types at once after John’s script has been applied?

    After applying John’s script, I can manually change the fade types one fade/clip at a time by right-clicking the fade and using the “Fade Type” menu choice, but obviously that takes a lot of time and partially defeats the time savings that John’s script provides.

    Thanks.

    Please disregard. I found a script to change audio fades. Sorry, I should have spent more time searching before posting the question.

    You could add:

    trackEvent.FadeIn.Curve = CurveType.Fast;

    To the inner loop of my script. The valid CurveTypes are:

    CurveType.Sharp	   // cubic sharp fade
    CurveType.Slow	   // logarithmic slow fade
    CurveType.None	   // no fade (hold)
    CurveType.Linear   // linear fade
    CurveType.Fast	   // logarithmic fast fade
    CurveType.Smooth   // cubic smooth fade

    Thanks, John. Adding this line will be quicker than applying your original script then applying the “change fade type” script that I found. Now I can do it in one step by running your modified script.

    I having been using VMS (currently v10 HD Platinum) for about a year, but am currently testing the trial version of Pro 64-bit in anticipation of a possible upgrade while the SCS upgrade special is on. For me, scripting is one of the strong attractions of the Pro version. I edit AVCHD clips from my camcorder and the audio is 5.1. Doing the fades with the mouse and the quarter-pie tool on 5 tracks (video and 4 audio) clip by clip, both in and out, was very time consuming. With your script it takes a matter of seconds. Thank you!!!

    I’m glad that worked out for you. Scripting is indeed an extremely powerful productivity tool. You might want to check out some professional scripts like VASST Ultimate S Pro and JetDV Excalibur. They will both save you hours and hours of editing time. I know Ultimate S Pro has this features of quickly adding fades. It also allows you to individually control the fade type for in and out. Excalibur might have something similar.
