Was able to take control of Resolve last evening using my JLCooper controller. The nice folks at Black Magic took full advantage of all the LED’s and button functions on the Cooper. Able to toggle through 4 pages including the Primary Color, Vectors, Sizing, and Windows pages. Also able to call up the render window. Though not all buttons have blue LED’s, it appears that I will be typing sticky labels once again. This should not be a problem for long however, as most button functions should get committed to memory after repetitive use. The first key I have committed to my grey matter was the Room / Page button #1, the UNDO.

    that’s great!
is it ethernet or did you have to install a usb card in the eclipse?

    Hey Paul,
It connects with ethernet to port #2. I have been working on Davinci’s Resolve panels for a while, but having the JLCooper working is an added bonus.

    Hi Ron,

do you have an overview of what are the differences between the JLCooper, the Resolve Panels and the Wave Panel.

I only know the JLCooper MCS3000/Spectrum combination, which might be comparable to the ECLIPSE but I would like to know, if you see any advantage on the other panels.

I will appreciate your thoughts on that subject.

    Hello Holger,

If you are using the MCS 3000 media controller along with the Spectrum, that is very comparable to the Eclipse CX. Be interesting to know if the Resolve software works well in that configuration.
I have used the Wave panel with Apple Color, and the Davinci panels for Resolve. All I can tell you is that the JLCooper seems to be very functional with Resolve, where the Wave requires more mouse control, and menu searching, which would make a color session take longer. The Davinci panels are the finest, at a $30,000 price tag. There is a button, or knob for almost every function within the Resolve, and they light up with their function description, plus they are heavy cast aluminum. The blue function LED’s are extensive too. The Davinci panels definitely can make coloring more efficient and faster. They are visually very impressive if you work with clients. That being said, I am so far very pleased with the JLCooper functionality, but have sticky labels everywhere……
    Hope this helps. Best, Ron

I’m seriously thinking about getting a JL Cooper. Waiting for Euphonix is not an option. Last year I waited over 7 months from they said “it’s coming soon for Color!” until it finally shipped, and then DaVinci for Mac came along – and then I’ve been waiting ever since for that thing to be supported. I’m tired of that!

A Wacom is great – but it can only get me ‘this far’. Now it’s JL Cooper or nothing. I’m happy to read you’re using it and see it as a superior to the Wave. Especially ergonomics. The Wave looks like a plastic toy from the 80’s compared to the other alternatives.

    Hi Ron,

thanks for your thoughts, very helpful!
The combination works very well with Resolve. As far as I can tell,
cause I´m relatively new to Resolve. I used it a long time with Color/FinalTouch. I have the sticky parade on the panel as well to get used to the new layout.

    Thanks,

    Holger

    Hi Ron
even though JL Cooper says on their website that their MCS Spectrum should work with Resolve we do not believe it. We checked our MCS 3800/Spectrum with the new free software and it did not work. Transportation on the MCS 3800 seems to be o.k. and you can press a lot of buttons and get the right result, but operating the rings and the balls on the Spectrum does not have any effect. Does anybody have better experiences?
    Regards
    Ralf

    Hi Ralf,

i don´t know about the Lite Version of Resolve, but the MCS3000/Spectrum Combination works more than fine for me everyday.
When you say operating the rings and balls does not have any effect, check if the Spectrum is communicating with the MCS.I think you know that you have to first power on the Spectrum and then the MCS-3800 afterwards to make them communicate!?

    Cheers,

    Holger
