Video Copilot guy is buddies with JJ Abrams and despite what Abrams says about the flares being natural I don’t think they are. They are too stylized and choreographed. He more than likely used that plug-in or something like it.

For this plug-in, you need Adobe After Effects though.

Yeah, some of them might be on camera, but I think most of it was done in post. I like using Knoll Light Factory from Red Giant, it’s pretty sweet. I heard that the foundation of this plug in was used on Star Trek (prob tweaked to be specific to the movie), and the guy John Knoll, was the effects guy. Pricey, but worth it.

Nice I never saw that. Cool to see it was equal parts, optically on lens as well as in post for shots they didn’t have control to add it on set, such as CG. I couldn’t find what anamorphic lenses they were using, that would be nice to know.
