Here’s a head scratcher; I have a friend who trying to produce a “Mystery Science Theater 3k” type of show. He has a movie like “Night of the living dead”. He has set up a green screen to shoot his ‘comments and jokes’. However, the comments and jokes are shot without actually watching the show in real time because the sound of the video would, of course, bleed into the microphone, right? The ‘gags’ are very short clips and he’s asked me to edit them in over the movie bed. So he keeps popping in and out. There are stretches of time when he’s not on…like sometimes 10 minutes between gags… it’s his first time. I’ve suggested he try the following to make this better and hopefully funnier.

I told him to get some funny friends, sit down and watch the movie several times and jot down the TimeCode for each gag. I can supply him with a burn-in TC filter so he’ll be ‘on time’ for each gag. Rehearse the gags and then for the actual shoot in front of the green screen he could have a monitor in front of him near the camera (or off center) and feed the sound via IFB ( he’s wearing a large wig) and record him in real time… and now here’s the part I can’t figure out and need your suggestions… If he misses a cue or wants to try it again… someone can back up the movie and run it again. How can I jam the timecode into the camera recording his green screen gags… should I use multiple cameras instead? Like one on him/green screen (don’t really want to mess with TC on the clips, right…that would be stupid… maybe have a second camera shooting the monitor w/ the burn-in window and just sync the two clips in FCPX and just remove the backups and restarts…etc…. yes, there will be jumpcuts on him…but at least the movie will be solid… Does this make sense or am I over thinking this? HA!

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers
