  • Jam Syncing Cameras for Multi Camera Shoot – Timecode Off by 2 frames

I jam synced the timecode from one camera to the other and did a test shooting a timecode slate. I come up with 2 frames off sometimes 3. Has anyone else tried this?

Yeah, that’s pretty much how it works.

Every time you toggle the camera between modes (from MCR back to CAMERA, for example) it’ll lose a frame or two. And that’s the first thing you have to do, is toggle from MCR back to camera. So you’re always going to be off by a couple of frames. And if you toggle back to playback/MCR mode, you’ll lose a couple more frames.

What we typically do is start them in sync, then shoot the master camera’s LCD to make sure that all the cameras have a visual reference. If your battery dies, you’ll have to re-shoot the master’s LCD.

It’s better than nothing, but it’s far from perfect. The firewire sync will get you in the ballpark but it won’t be absolutely frame accurate.
