Does anybody have a method for Time code Sync between the HVX200 and the HPX500..

I really think I am working to hard by trying to start both cameras time code by pushing their buttons at the same time… There ought to be a better method..

Run TOD (free run) timecode and start them at the same time manually which should you get pretty close. Make sure to re-check the tc when you change batteries or if the cameras go in to power save.

You can jam sync tc with two HVX200s via firewire, but it is never super accurate and not real easy. I find running TOD tc to be a very slick way to do it. With p2, tod is no where near the pain in the ass it was to capture on tape. TOD on tape was a logging nightmare.

You can search this forum and find a few different ways to do it.

Can the HPX500 use the same remote as the HVX200? That wya you can get a frame accurate sync. Search this forum for the firewire method, but I think you can get closer with the DIY method.

Remote,, wait, tell me more, there is a remote for the HPX500????

That would make my day…. Yep I did a search and got zilch…

I was hoping somebody would have a magic trick, that might start with taking the HVX200 video out into the HPX500 Time-code / reference in and voila… it all syncs…

    All I want for Christmas, is 2 camera sync HVX200 – HPX500

You could try one of two low tech solutions.
1- Use a flash or strobe across the set each time the two cameras roll, then in post use the 1 frame with the flash to visually sync the two cameras. Of course this only works when both cameras are rolling on the same subject at the same time.
2- Use an audio source, like a two way near the mics, or a clap, to sync the cameras. In post you use the audio wave forms on the time line to sync the two cameras to the same point. This has worked well for me in the past when the cameras are shooting the same subject but are placed along way apart. I have used some two way radios held close to the camera mics to broadcast an audio sync (across a mountain side in the snow) to get a series of cameras synced together. Then in post we used the audio wave forms in multicam edit mode to sync all cameras. As long as all the cameras roll and cut at the same time it’s fool proof.

    That’s what I’m asking you.

There’s a remote for the 200, not sure if it works for the 500 though. SOmething tells me it won’t.

    Hi,

You can try my currently free sequenceLiner.
It’s an app thought for cams and audio HDRs running time of day (TOD) timecode.
Export your bins and one or more target sequences as XML.
The application will lay down all clips into a target sequence at their TOD. Even if the TOD tc doesn’t match on the cams the clip TOD relations within the track will match.
So you can move a complete track by some frames ind everything will be in sync.

Thanks, I booked mark your site… It would still be better if I can sync the cameras..

Your app does take advantage of my back up plan…. TOD…..

    Nat,

you’re right it’s better to sync the cameras.

But my application does allows two or more cameras to be synched easily if each camera can be set up to “free run tc” – which should be the case with yours.
Even if the clips won’t match in the timeline – because of the time differences of the free run tc – the absolute order of the clips regarding the time of day is always the same. Therefore you can move complete tracks to be matched with another track or use “ttt” and “+/-“.
    You can also

I can can upload a small video by end of the week if needed – it’s easy to sync stuff that way. One of the user told me that was able to sync four days of multi camera shot within an hour.

    Andreas

    P.S.
If you’re using the mxf4mac component it’s even faster and you can easily mix/setup double sound.
