Jacob: Improved memory management in 2?
Posted by David Cherniack on January 18, 2006 at 10:57 pmOne of the issues with large projects with many subtimeleines in 1.51 is memory management. The program eats memeory and doesn’t return it to the OS leading to frequent crashes and lockups.
Has this been addressed in 2.0?

January 19, 2006 at 12:20 amDavid, if it hasn’t, I will ask you to join me in hunting down and beating the hell out of the gump at Adobe that made the decision not to.

January 19, 2006 at 12:53 amI know that there have been a number of memory related fixes that stabilize the recent release. So far (and I have had a number of rather large HD project), i haven’t had any memory leak issues. I am sure it’s not completely gone, but a lot of cleaning was done and your experience with those same projects in 2.0 should be better.

January 19, 2006 at 2:53 amHi David,
Yes I believe it is fixed. For the past three or four months I haven’t had the memory getting sucked out of 2.0 during renders aqnd exports. It does use a LOT of memory. I have 2-gig of 5400 DDR2 in my Decklink system and during heavy renders, memory can drop to 600meg, but it used to go all the way to zero.

Did your extensive testing include groups of high rez stills?
