J-H3 to FCP workflow? not seeing video
I am working with footage shot on the SONY HDW F900 @ 1080×1920 23.98. I am attempting to capture this using the SONY J-H3 HDCAM deck, but am having issues. Does anyone know a good workflow for this or know any reason why I wouldn’t be seeing video, but have deck control? I have messed around with setting in the deck and in final cut and can’t get it to go, unless i am doing a down-convert to SD using the 23.98 Pull-down.
I would love to be able to capture at 720p 23.98 DVCPROHD, since the final product will never be shown in 1080.
I am using FCP 6.0 on a dual 2.7 GhZ G-5 with a HDPRO DualLink BlackMagic card.

I am not sure a decklink can do a real time cross convert from 1080 23.976 to 720 23.976.
A Kona card can do this for sure.
Can you capture 1080psf23.976 with the decklink?

I think i’ve tried almost every option in final cut and the only time i can see video and capture is when i am using the pull-down setting on the deck and down-converting to 8-bit, DV, or some other down-convert option.
So do you think that’s a card issue?

No. I think something is setup wrong. You have to make sure the deck is sending 1080 23.976 and you have your decklink setup to the proper easy setup of 1080 23.976 DvcPro HD.

It turns out the crew didn’t actually shoot in 1080p 23.98 and the deck and other settings needed to be set to 1080i 29.97/59. I guess i should never trust what they say they shoot on site, it never seems to be correct. All is working well, thanks for your help.
