J-3 Digibeta Audio
Posted by Jake Musser on April 27, 2010 at 4:32 pmQuestion regarding Digibeta Audio playback on J-3..
Does the J-3 Digibeta Audio only output on the embedded SDI channel? I see audio meters but do not hear over headphone jack or XLR monitors. BetaSP works fine..
Our J-30 deck plays digibeta audio on headphones and XLR out… Was that an improvement on the J-30? Or is our J3 have an issue??
Thanks!

April 27, 2010 at 5:58 pmIs it possible the analog out is set to monitor channels 3/4, which may be blank?

April 27, 2010 at 6:40 pmI will double check the menu, but don’t believe i have any options in the menu on this deck (the j30 has a ilink menu 831 to monitor the DV conector)
I can switch audio channels on the front panel using the, AU MON SEL, and have audio meters in ch 1,2 but nothing sound out of headphone jack, or XLR…

April 27, 2010 at 8:15 pmI do not see any menu setting to change output channels..
At this point I am to believe it is a broken Digital to Analog Audio path in the deck…

It’s on the front of the deck. You can select Ch 1/2 or Ch 3/4 for monitoring. You can’t monitor all four at once via Analog. Should hear it either via the analog outputs on the back or the headphone jack.
Have had the J3 probably 8 years now and it’s been a workhorse here.

I can see the audio levels on 1/2 move, but can’t here on the Analog out during Digibeta playback.
Could be a broken signal converter in the deck Dig-Ana Audio…?

No clue honestly. As I said ours has just worked for 8 years, have not had any sort of audio issues from it and we use both the SDI and analog audio on an almost daily basis for captures and dubs.

April 27, 2010 at 9:50 pmNot likely…but this could also be one of those instances where audio was recorded out of phase…with one channel canceling the other out.
Try capturing audio from it and delete one of the tracks.

April 27, 2010 at 9:53 pmI can put the same tape in our J-30 and get analog audio…
I Have tried several tapes. Very strange…
Only thing I can think is the Digital to Analog Audio path is broken. The Audio meters in the menu move because they are digital..?

“I think you need to get the machine checked out. Sounds like you tried everything possible at this point.
