Its been a decade since i used avid

Hi A quick question ive used avid years ago, do i still have to transcode after i import footage

or can i just start editing after? also import and source browser if i select from the source browser and bring in footage is that the same as importing footage? thanks Emmet

As we now have linking and the old legacy import its easier to use the term ingest.

So you can ingest by linking and either edit directly with that linked media or transcode if you want the benefit of Avid managed media and an edit friendly codec.
