I’ve just completed a marketing video for the Confucius Institute. I also have to deliver a version with Chinese subtitles, which I created using the Title generator in APP-CC. I’m Mac-based, still OS 10.8.5.

Ten percent of the Chinese characters aren’t being “read” by my software. Instead of a Chinese letter, I’ll see a rectangle where the letter should be.

The translation was created by “song-style” Chinese software. Idealistically I thought I could simply cut & paste the paragraphs.

    I’m in way-over-my-head here. Help…

You need to use a font that is compatible with Chinese characters: not all of them are. This is why you are getting a square symbol in lieu and place of the correct Chinese character.

Do you know Chinese? if not I would make sure you have a Chinese speaker/reader who can review your subtitles.

    Good luck!
