    Hello to everyone,

I want to ask everyone in here and I hope that someone could help me… Is it possible to view on the current composition window the content of the layers that are out of the composition area boundaries?
Well this is a big problem and I hope that Adobe Team think at this problem. Is very hard to work with many layers, especially 3d layers when those are out of the viewport area because you cant see them or you cant see their content… Well in case anyone could help me with an advice or just a tip how to solve this problem will be great. I suppose many of you face this problem often so… maybe there is a way to manage this.

Many thanks to all the people in here that give a real support to all of us.
    Have a nice day gentleman.

The area outside the comp frame is called the pasteboard, by the way. Just to impress the opposite sex at parties. 🙂

No, there’s no switch (or similar) that will allow you to view anything other than the layer wireframes on the pasteboard.

If it’s absolutely necessary, a workaround could be to compose in a really big comp (so you can see a lot more), with a top layer that contains a mask that matches your desired final render size. When you want to render, you could drop the big comp into another small comp, or use the “crop” settings in the output module.

You can also consider using one of the other 3D views in a new window or … creating a new camera, parented to your first camera, but with a wider lens or shifted back so it’s behind the other camera … seeing more than the first camera does.

    Hope that helps,
    Steve

Man, Steve, you must go to the good parties….

Seriously, though – When I started using FLash, I hated the way it showed you everything, instead of cutting it off at the edge of the “comp window”.

Maybe now that Adobe owns both, it will creates something that finds a balance between both approaches. I wouldn”t mind if they found a way to show the pasteboard, but I imagine the overhead could get really high – the second AE doesn’t need to calculate something heavy (like when it goes off the screen) it starts to pick up speed again. Maybe they could find a way to make it so that it doesn’t render effects outside the comp boundries…

I think I might just send this request in.

I read all your answers to my questions and I must say i am satisfied but the problem solved by Mr. Steve Roberts is not the right way because I allready use that for many time and not everytime is working well.
I will be more explicit this time.
I suppose everyone that use Afx for some time knows that when you need a short audio preview you just press Ctrl and by keeping the pointer of the mouse over the timeline for a short time you will have an audiopreview. Maybe the Adobe Team or just somebody else that consider to be smart enough in programming will make something like this for an short videopreview.(but letting the user to view the content of the layers that are out of the pasteboard!!!)
Let’s suppose you work with 10 layers and all of them are 3d layers that are arranged in all directions… those 10 layers are actually precomps of another 10 layers that are arranged as filmstrips – the filmstrips are multiple of pal layers(10×720) is easy to make a comp of 7200×576 but when you place that big-wide comp in a normal comp you will see just segments and in case you duplicate those precomps and make let’s see 100 duplicates I can bet that you will need to arrange them in a way that will never let the eye to see more than 2 times the same scene nearby(I mean a duplicate) well for a such case I suppose will be great to see the order of the filmstrips(their content) outside of the pasteboard, especially if they are moving or sliding or in case you move the camera thru them.

I wish to thank’s again to you dear friends for answering my questions.
    MAny, many thanks for support.
