I am doing a year-end family video but can’t seem to get the rendered video to match up with the size of video. There are a few sources, but I don’t know how to match it to the white guidelines on the preview window. I attached a screen shot so that you can see. My video size takes the whole window, but when I render it only takes the inside white lines and I am losing a good portion of what I shot. How do I fix that?

    What are your project properties?
What format are you rendering it to?
    How are you viewing it?

Hi Mike.. My properties are: NTSC DV Widescreen (720×480, 29.970 fps) and I’ve tried rendering it to MPG2, uncompressed AVI and burned both on a PC to DVD. I also tried rendering to MOV and burning with iDVD on a MAC.

My goal is to have the highest quality DVD to give out to the family on Christmas and this has been stressing me out beyond all belief so thank you in advance for the input!

“My properties are: NTSC DV Widescreen (720×480, 29.970 fps)…”

Jon, make sure you’re using DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream template.

Since you’re making a DVD, the only formats you want to encode to (render) are MPEG-2 for video and AC-3 for audio.
Give both the same name and render them to the same folder.
That way, when you load the video file into DVD Architect, the audio file will automatically follow it.

If your video is less than 70 min. long, go into the Custom option and set your video to a Constant Bit Rate (CBR) setting of 8,000,000.
If it’s over 70 min., use a bitrate calculator to determine optimum custom Variable Bit Rate (VBR) settings and click on the Two-pass button.
Either way, this will ensure maximum quality on the finished DVD.

This is very helpful. The video is under an hour so that will be easy to follow. One last question, in my project properties what should my pixel aspect ratio be set to? NTSC DV or NTSC Widescreen or Square?

Ideally your project properties match your source video.
From your original screenshot, it appears to be widescreen which you’ve already set it to.

Mike, so I did it all with your guidance. Unfortunately it is giving me an error when I try to import that file into Sony DVD Architect, which seems strange since that’s the template I used. Any idea?

Jon, just when I thought it was safe to go home 🙂

I use DVD Architect Pro but my suggestions should be applicable to the Studio version.
Are you dragging and dropping your video file from the explorer window on to the main screen?
If you do something else, it may think you want that to be the menu video and that won’t work.
Make sure your DVDA project properties are set to widescreen mode.
You did render a separate AC-3 file, correct?
The last two suggestions are probably not relevant but they’re my usual DVDA trouble response.

I’m heading out now for the evening so if these suggestions don’t work, hopefully someone else will have an idea so that you can get this thing done.
