    Hey Guys! I’m trying to export about 75 clips that I have pulled a key from. The footage I have was shot on DVCPRO 1080i, we have dealt with all the technical problems of it being shot on white instead of green and shot at 29.97 fps.

    Our issue is with the export. We have done our keying in FCP, then send that to Motion to do a small bit of rotoscoping. When we look at the key in the Viewer and Canvas, it looks great! For some reason when we export this clip, it comes out with a dark halo. We were supposed to be done with these on Tuesday and we’re still dealing with this issue. Please help!

    We are un-checking the pre-multiply option. We are trying to output as an Animation codec with Millions of Colors+. I don’t understand! This doesn’t seem to make any rational sense whatsoever!

    (I don’t know if it matters, but these clips are going to be converted with Flash video encoder, and will be put on a website as a video narrator.)

    Well, the halo appears in the white version as well. Might want to choke that matte and feather, but it might not look as good. What camera did you shoot this with and how did you get your talent to stand on a wall so effortlessly? 😉

    Im no fundi at keying but it seems to me that the green fix you guys did has a soft edge, ie if you key it, there is an edge due to the not-so green pixels between the green bg and the woman… so perhaps the conversion from white to green caused this edge which is now apparent when you key the green.

    possible?
    how did you change it from white to green, and why didnt you key it at that stage of the process since you would have to have done most the dirty work already?

    I’m not sure what camera they shot on, I wasn’t there for the shoot. I hadn’t even started working here yet when they were doing the shoot. However, the problem doesn’t lie in the keying, that’s not a problem at all. We got that worked out. It’s in the export that the halo shows up. Doesn’t make any sense to me!

    We didn’t change it from green to white. The green was just a slug of color to see the edges. It makes it easier with the contrast to see how the edges showed up. They should have shot on green to begin with. The process of keying would have been much faster and easier, but I wasn’t working here yet when they shot it. I got the footage on raw tapes my first day.

    The problem of the halo happens when we export the QT. You don’t see it in the sequence, but for some reason when we export the clip to QT, and drag that back into a new timeline, and conform the sequence, the halo appears. It only shows up on a final output movie.

    I don’t get it!

    If you export and reimport the file make sure you set the alpha type correctly. You probably want to set it to premultiplied with black.

    Sorry, misconstrued your pictures there. Can I see a still of the raw? I have a reason for this.
