September 7, 2005 at 8:26 pmHi,
That maybe true, but maybe not. Keep in mind that there is not a Hollywood production that does a tape recording of audio signals, it is all on disk drives or flash memory. It wasn’t that long ago 24 track tape machines were the norm, no longer.
Point is that were are in the process of moving from a tape based environs and there are resonable and logical questions about how do I deal with this as opposed to what I used to do. So there are things to be sorted out, but I really feel that the long term benefit of no longer having to digitize the footage seems so attarctive, that the way will be found and it won’t be the same for everyone.
Best,
Jan

September 8, 2005 at 1:35 amI just bought a Maxtor 300 gig drive for $120 bucks.
It’s cheaper than tape.
2 40-gigs are would be practically free.
There are programs that would use 7 DVD’s to back up big files, but I would not entirely trust them.
Win 2k, Premiere, Canopus DV Storm SE

September 11, 2005 at 3:57 pmWe use DVD for archival backup of our data. With 8X and 16X widely available for a miniscule amount, it really begins to make sense as an inexpensive and reliable backup. As to your question earlier about the reliability between a DV master and a DVD, I would have to go with the DVD. DVD

September 14, 2005 at 1:10 amI have used the DVD’s to archive, although I must say that I don’t trust the medium yet.
I have had so many bad DVD’s returned over the years, and who knows how many never call.
I have a “simple backup” program by Sony that takes about 4 DVD’s to back up a 2 hour program in DV. I have never tried to dump them back to the computer to verify that it was stored with no errors.
I will have to check one. I usually use it as a secondary backup although it is time consuming as it goes back to verify each disk. Definately a good solution for shorter clips.
I find this camera very exciting, although I am not sure about P2 yet. You don’t need P2 to make this camera work!
