Issues importing from Panasonic s5xii
Posted by Jeff Theisler on April 19, 2024 at 6:55 pmI am having issues importing media from my Panasonic s5xii, the settings are mov 4k 422 10 bit. The audio imports but not the video( the video is fine viewing in the camera, but even windows will not display the video. I tried to conver to mp4 but same issue. Would pro Rez work? Or any other ideas?

April 19, 2024 at 7:06 pmHey Jeff,
Sounds like the actual video codec is not installed on your computer.
Out of interest, have you tried to play it in VLC?

April 19, 2024 at 8:06 pmIn theory ProRes should work on Avid Media Composer, but do recommend that you test it before going full in.
And, also check if you are getting enough resolution out of the ProRes too.

April 21, 2024 at 1:05 amI have tried every single mov codec that this camera has. None work. pro res does work but its 1080 and I do not want that. I dont know what other options I have besides send the camera back

Sorry to be a bit harsh here, but if your footage is not showing on your computer, it is because you do not have the codec installed – no amount of changing the camera out, can change that.
Panasonic towards the bottom of their specs page states following under “Standard Accessories – Software”:

Playback / Editing

・The software to process RAW file on computer is not bundled with this camera. To do this, SILKYPIX Developer Studio is available for download at Ichikawa Soft Laboratory’s website using computer connected to the Internet.

April 22, 2024 at 1:28 amWell I learned something yesterday, it seems IMPORTING MEDIA is a thing of the past, it’s now all about linking. it seems I can link without issues. I know you say that the camera doesn’t matter but I never had an issue with canon and avid, but maybe times have changed. But it seems my issues is resolved for now I guess. thank you for your input though, I do appreciate the time you took to respond. Thanks again!
