  • Issue with Scratch disk allocation – CS5 Mac

    Hi,

I am currently in the process of taking a look at Premiere Pro with an eye to moving from FCP in the wake of the FCPX debacle.

While trying to set up a project to have a look around PP CS5 I have come up with the following problem.

When I am trying to set up a project I get the following issue when trying to specify my scratch disks – “The scratch disks are write protected or unavailable…”

I have looked for info on this and found info about being logged in as an administrator, which I am. I have tried this unsuccessfully with external and internal disks on my mac that are not the primary start up disk.

I’m sure it’s something fairly simple but it’s holding me up getting in to check the software out! Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙂

    Thanks

    Alex

I was having the same problem. It took me a while to find out where my Media Cache files were being stored… they were taking up over 70 gigs!

I have premiere 5.5 on a mac. I found the cache files in
    Library>Application support>adobe>common>media cache files

    Empty it out!

In my case, I now have to wait a while when I open up the project, it seems to have to conform the files, which is taking some time. But at least I can save my projects now.

Next, I will try in the SEQUENCE menu to click on DELETE RENDER FILES from time to time… that should help too.

I assume the Mac version is similar enough to Windows version, in which case you SHOULD change the location for these files. Put the Media Cache on a separate (fast) drive, and tell the render files to be placed in the same location as the project (unless you prefer a dedicated drive for that).
