  • Issue with saving master template in motion not crossing over to FCP

Posted by Eric Strom on August 30, 2008 at 3:41 am

I followed the Larry Jordan tutorial very closely in Final
Cut Pro 6 Essential Effects Changing a motion template. I chose the
master template “Rotation.HD” and chose “Open copy in editor” One I
made all my changes in motion I saved it and once it Exported as a
quicktime movie and went back over to final cut pro and rendered it.
Then I clicked play to view it and it played the plain template as it
was before I worked on it in motion. I then went to the location
where it saved in motion and imported the quicktime file but once I
did the text looked blurry and clear as it was when it was in motion.
Any idea why te file I save in motion does not translate over to final cut?

One thing that can cause this problem is that the settings in Motion don’t match the sequence settings in FCP… don’t want to resize anything you don’t have to in FCP, because it’s pretty weak there. Better to not do that at all.

Another thing that makes text especially look bad is the format of the sequence and source material. I think making DV titles or HDV titles look good isn’t easy. Sometimes it’s just a matter of raising or lowering it a line position/wise will improve it. (in your case would have to be done in Motion then importied to FCP.

If you’re exporting a QT movie from Motion, and you’re having to render it in FCP, it’s a sure sign that you’ve set the Motion project settings to be something other than what your sequence settings are. If they match no render is needed.
