I am turning to this forum as a last resort. I use Final Cut Express 1.0 and, while I understand this is a site devoted to Pro, I believe my problem is not strictly an Express one.

    Issue:

When I play back captured footage, it plays perfectly in both the FCE Timeline and the Viewer window of FCE. I always use a TV monitor to edit footage. The issue now is that when I look at the footage on the TV Monitor it is very jerky and keeps cutting out. . . . . .yet the same footage plays fine on the computer screen. (The problem is not in the capture process.)

I’m guessing that there is a problem between my Mac and the TV. I use a digital video camera as a pass through. It would make sense that the problem is a cable.

When things like this go wrong: trash your prefs….

Thanks so much for the Trashing Prefs document. It is excellent and I really thought maybe that would be my solution.

I did everything as instructed on it. The only part I wasn’t 100% sure about was the External Editors tab page. I did not set it for anything since I wasn’t sure about it. I have set the scratch disk to an external HD I have hooked up. This HD is devoted exclusively to video and has 145GB available. . . . .plenty of space for my needs.

Everything looks right but the video still cuts out and is jerky when viewed on the TV Monitor. Computer monitor looks fine.

I wonder if there is something I overlooked when trashing preferences.
