Issue – FCP – relink maps to incorrect source clips
Hi,
I’m relatively new to FCP, and the issue I’m experiencing is
when I attempt to relink “Clip #1”, my machine maps this clip
to another clip randomly within the source directory.Its AVCHD source footage transcoded, and I managed
to log and transfer all clips so they are numbered consecutively,
eg: Clip #1…Clip #1000Example of the link issue: (Final cut headings below)
Name, Reel, Source
Clip #1,
– , HD/Rushes/ /Clip #975 I have tried to individually point the relink to the correct source clip.
But regardless of how helpful I am to the software, the source clip pointer
always mismatches (displays the incorrect clip).This is happening to a certain percentage of clips, and I cant see a reason for it
(Could possibly have something to do with saving my project as new version, and
setting off a new log and transfer process, but i’ve always been diligent in renaming my
rushes folder to maintain consecutively named source clips).Does anyone know how I can relink the clips?
Or
Does anyone know how I can change the reel or clip info within quicktime to have final cut read the correct file?
I would greatly appreciate any help in this matter as its going to be allot of work for me to
retransfer the clips. (I’m dealing with allot more than what’s in my example)Ideally I feel that any file based footage should maintain the file name as the reel heading,
but it seems that the log and transfer process does not link this mentality.Perhaps if I need to start again, i’ll make sure that my reel is modified to match the source clip,
but currently this wont work as I have a fundamental relink mismatch).Any help is greatly appreciated.

Are your clips actually named with the “#” symbol in the file name? That is a special character which has significance to the OS, and I avoid special characters when naming clips.
I’m not sure if it’s related to your problem or not, but I would consider renaming your clips from Clip#1, to Clip_001.
When manually reconnecting, have you unchecked the “Matched Name and Reel Only” box?
