    Hi,

I’ve seen a spate of or requests for physical mpeg 2 DVD’s for dailies in the last couple of weeks, and because some these shops are PC only, they want either physical media or .iso images.

The physical DVD’s are obviously not an issue, but that means making FedEx deadlines. .iso’s can be uploaded overnight but going out to a PC to create the .iso files is bit of a pain, and means another piece of gear on set.

Specifically is there a less complex work flow than FCP->Export Movie->Compressor-> Physical DVD move to PC create .iso from DVD?

Seems like Disk Utility or or Toast or Compressor should be able to get me there from here, but thus far, I haven’t been able piece it together.

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve

Using the “Build/Format” menu in DVD-SP. You have the option to write the DVD to an data file. Choose “.img” and then simply rename the file to “.iso” before you send it.

    yup
and you should get them to look at things like or mediasilo or syncvue. I’ve been using them for years and they really work out well. No physical media. Systems are slick and fast. Syncview lets clients and creatives work together on the same piece. Mediasilo is easy and lets a client review without you having to wait around. And they can leave timecode tagged notes!

Non-linear: all the time and nothing but.

    Thanks to both of you.

I thought I’d tried exactly the steps that Aaron details here and to no avail. It was a super hectic day on set, the camera crew had a bit to much to drink the night before so there were some operational errors that complicated my job, and so it was very likely pilot error on my part.

I’ll verify the process this week. Thanks for setting me straight.

Robb… I’m so with you, you are preaching to the choir. I have the ability to host streaming and download versions of dailies on a password protected minisite and the Rocket allows transcodes to many file types near real time.

But this particular client absolutely insisted on old school DVD’s. I suspect my on set one light may be the total extent of their color grade (shudder) and they wanted to see what their final output would be.

Going forward I think I’m going to institute a surcharge on this to force the issue more.

It’s a pita and it just doesn’t make any sense, particularly when they are bearing the cost of several fedex shipments a day and not getting to see anything until the next day.

    You can lead a horse…
