Isn’t it Ironic!
Posted by Frank Nolan on June 7, 2006 at 7:17 pmThat most of the people who complained and were concerned about the cost of P2 cards, purchased a HDV camera instead, as the cost of a one hour tape was under $5, but they now have to go out and buy a HDV deck and a Kona card to capture their footage in FCP into the DVCPro HD codec so as to make it workable in 24p. I guess those re-usable P2 cards aren’t that expensive after all in the long run:-)

In all fairness, it’d be hard to edit & monitor DVCPRO HD without a Kona 2 or equivalent card. Even p2 users have to buy something to properly monitor their footage.

But I like the point. When Apple offers true 24p support, that arguement will be moot though.

Not at all! You can edit quite well without a card and you can also monitor for that matter on the apple display or a dell. The only thing you would need a card and an external HD monitor for is color correction, but that can easily be done at a post facility.

June 7, 2006 at 9:44 pmYou are right, kinda. We shoot, edit, and finish most of our stuff. My Kona2 is a necessity.

Computer monitors cannot properly show Interlaced video in either SD or HD properly – only progressive content can be accurately displayed.
The cost of a post facility color correction session for most is considerably more than the cost of a Kona Card and a HD display.gary adcock

I agree with Jeremy and Gary. You need a Kona and a monitor to produce things properly. Looking at a computer LCD isn’t it. But then, I think you need a monitor with a WFM in the field to get it right in the first place…

June 8, 2006 at 5:33 pmI have to agree with most here. All our suites have a Kona 2 and an HD display(4)
If you are in business, this is an expected expense
