In your situation you need to pull the purchase order. You also need to question your administration, perhaps through your governing board, why purchase orders are delayed four to six weeks.

[Tom Wolsky] “or even 1.2.5, which was probably the most solid version of the application.”

I’ll just quibble a bit here and say that FCP 4.5 with OS 10.3.8 was the most stable version of FCP I’ve run in our shop.

Its called responding to the reality Tom. There are a lot of people still using the old version. That is the reality of fast moving technology. Some will be left behind. As a gesture of good customer service Apple should write a simple patch (as already been demonstrated).

Trying to compare 1.25 to 4.5 is a bit silly don’t you think? Sorry, Apple does not have a leg to stand on this. There is no reason for them not to write a patch. They have updated $130 OS even when a newer one is out, I don’t see why they can’t do it with $1000 application.

Not to sound too flip about this. But your problems stem from your administrative purchasing procedures not from Apple. What if some institution needed a six months processing time, should Apple or any other manufacturers honor the long processing time? I don’t think so. I certainly understand your frustrations but that’s a drawback from your working environment not from Apple’s sales practice.

Yes some users will be left behind but that’s reality of the computing and software business.

“so adding one computer just cost the school and $2400!”

$2400 for six seats of one of the world’s leading PROFESSIONAL Post Production software is too much? I don’t share your outrage.

    Hi,

I know this is a very generous offer but to help out fellow FCP users I would be willing to trade my Dual 1.8 with PCI-X for a Dual Core 2.0 or 2.3 to allow them to run the older version of FCP.

    Best Wishes,

    Mitch
