Only to transfer… not to digitize.

And there is no USB to FW adapter

YOu can ingest with a USB Card Reader, or USB HardDrive. NOT Capture, that is FW only.

Ok, because I found a cable converter from mini IEEE1364 male to USB male I was curious if thatt cable could work, I guess not for video tape capturing

    Hi Richard,
USB has the transfer speed necessary for capturing, but unfortunately the speed is not sustained enough as in FW400. This cause similar problems than when you want to capture TO USB HD: Hangs, chop files, out of sync files, TC problems, etc.

However as long as nobody seems have tried that USB/FW adapter (same than Richard, I thought that didn’t existed), without hesitation I would give it a go.
If it doesn’t works I don’t think you will lose but a bit of your time and the price of the adapter.
    What if its works?
Be creative, try, experiment. Is not that easy to blow-up a Mac.

Very good explained Rafael, everything makes sense, thanks

I already ordered this cheap cable converter,I ordered in the meanwhile I asked you guys if it could work or not

But I guess there is always a risk to damage the notebook USB port or even worst the IEEE1394 port of the video camera

and I guess the mini USB port of the video camera is only for video clips and pics already digitized, not for video tape transfers to the notebook, the other users are telling that

    Thank you Rafael

What is clear is that just a cable is not enough to do that work.
You need the appropriate software and I don’t know if that exist.

This is far more than a software issue. FireWire port on camera expects FireWire at other end to capture. Unless you can reprogram your camera you ate SOL. Replace your FireWire card or repair machine.
