I’ve been hashing around with this problem for a couple of weeks now. I have a turnkey Matrox LE PCIe HP 8400 workstation with full CS3 loaded. I am working with another editor who is on the latest version of FCP. He has video clips in his system that I need to use in mine. We want to use his DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO exports because of the smaller file size but I can’t seem to import them into PPRO, AE or Sony Vegas for that matter.

My understanding is that the Matrox LE is fully compatible with the DVCPRO codec but that seems to be true as long as it is not from an Apple FCP. So, is that the final answer?

Briefly, how can someone on my system import and playback any exported DVCPRO or DVCPRO50 exported from a FCP? What is the big secret? $$$$??

I can playback large 8bit uncompressed QT.mov animations but we are trying to exchange files over a FTP and the file sizes are huge.

    Anybody in my same predicament?

Unfortunately Apple doesn’t support the DVCPRO50 or the DVCPRO HD codec for Quicktime in Windows. But DVCPRO(25) Quicktimes should work (you’ll still have to render). I’d suggest biting the bullet, and converting the DVCPRO50 material to DVCPRO.

    Eric,

Thanks for the info. Just to clarify, you are saying that you can import DVCPRO clips from a FCP export into your system? I realize you say that you must render but when I try to import dvcpro, PPRO gives me the “generic error”. I understand that you said that DVCPRO50 and DVCPROHD won’t work but just plain DVCPRO should work?

Just did some FCP(Mac) media manager tests to PProCS3(PC) and the DVCPROHD and DVCPRO50 in avi format only bring in the audio, in Mov they won’t come in period. DVCPRO(25) in avi format will open properly.
Mov format works but must render.

    Erik,

Perhaps the Raylight codec from DVFilm will help. I think you can download a free trial.
