    Wow, he has another video with the same type of rain, it looks REALLY professional, is that really possible in after effects? Specifically the liquidy / rain effects he used

    Yes, that can be achieved. It appears as if trapcode particular was used, with a custom particle (probably image/video of a sphere with nice specular highlights), and some depth of field. I’m sure it took a great deal of time to get the look he/she created in that video… but certainly possible with after effects (and trapcode particular)
