Is this price for real?
Posted by Lars Wikstrom on May 13, 2006 at 2:59 amI think I am going to finally buy the camera. I surfed the web to find a good deal and I did. The only problem is
I belive that it can be this cheap. I found if for $4,299 on this site.https://www.royalcamera.com/panasonicaghvx200.html
Something has to be wrong with this price or have the prices come down in the HVX200’s

May 13, 2006 at 4:20 amMany of the prices on that site look substantially lower than everything else I’ve seen.
Something smells wrong?

May 13, 2006 at 4:53 amPlease, before you even think about parting with any money, check http://www.resellerratings.com and go to the store ratings section. But be warned, if you are of a weak disposition, check with your doctor before you read the results.
I haven’t posted here before, so please forgive me jumping in on this one.

May 13, 2006 at 11:19 amThis is a gray market scam. They will not let you out the door for that amount of money. You will have to buy something else, like the useless $500 extended warranty, not the word extended. You won’t have a warranty here in the US for the first year. You will buy filters that vignette. You will buy enough useless add-ons that won’t work to get the price up to where it needs to be, about $5395. Buy it from an authorized dealer.
Oh and if that doesn’t convince you, go to http://www.resellerratings.com and look up their customer satisfaction history. You won’t be able to return any of those useless accessories that don’t work.
Best,
Jan

May 13, 2006 at 5:55 pmWow I did read the reviews and not a good place to buy those cameras or anything else. What is the going street price for this camera. I saw some good deals at the NAB show but didn;t have the money to buy then. I know B&H Photo is a great company but they have always charged retail price. Visiting their website I see the camera was $5500. Has the retail price of the camera dropped to $5500 or is it still $6K
thanks,
-Lars

May 13, 2006 at 6:25 pmI’ve not seen any authorized dealer going much below 5500. The retail is 5995.

May 16, 2006 at 10:02 pmB&H is generally below retail.
From Canada, their prices look very cheap. If I can save 5-10% but I don’t know the retailer, I’ll still buy from B&H. It’s not worth it to get ripped off.
Here’s another interesting site. It shows a picture of the physical location of a lot of these camera stores in the New York area.
