  • Is this possible or do I have to restart everything all over?

I have finished a project of 18 minutes long for a client that includes footage letterboxed in 4/3 because it was initially meant to be projected on a LED wall at the Brussels Autoshow.

The project went well and the client is so thrilled that he wants copies of the 18 minute reel in 16/9 for the showrooms of his dealers.

And this is the catch …
How do I translate the 4/3 timeline in which the 16/9 clips are scaled down to match the 4/3 aspect ratio to 16/9 without having to redo the entire edit?

Tell me this is possible because the initial edit took days to complete and I am on a tight deadline.

The help of all the gurus in this forum would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

My first try would be to open a new 16×9 project, import the existing project and remove the scaling, leaving the rest of the editing intact. That would give you maximum quality with limited effort.

Harm’s suggestion would be mine as well.

    Thanks guys !

I’ll definately give that a try!

    Why didn’t I anticipate this?
Is there any way in the future to make a dual project, say like a 16/9 timeline and a 4/3 timeline inside the same project?

Would be a nice feature I think, but the question is is it technically doable ?

Currently not with Adobe software, but technically it is doable (but possibly only on a sequence by sequence basis), since DVDLab Pro allows for mixed time lines.

I edit in 16:9. Then, if I need a 4:3, I just import it into a 4:3 project and let the edges get cut off. That might mean that I need to pan a little left or right to get the best part of the 16:9 frame into the 4:3 frame. But pretty much, I can get a good frame just by cutting off the edges.

…keeping in mind that all these changeovers do create some rendering…
