I recently came across this reel and i was absolutely floored with his intro. From the start to the part where the camera goes in a 3d like hallway and ends up looking at 2 small girls and the hallway breaks away in pieces.

Can all the effects in that intro be done with AE? Greatly appreciate your opinions before i lock myself in my room ready to work hours making something like it 😀

Absolutely. I don’t know if he did it with AE, but there’s no real 3D in there that is beyond AE’s capabilities. That said, his Camera Skills, not to mention his design sense, are both top notch.

Wow, that is really sweet! The black and white definitely helps the spooky effect and makes for easier special effects. Not that this looks at all easy! Does anyone else recognize those two little girls from The Shining?

hey thanks for your comments! Now i’m even more motivated to do this. I know i’m not going to come any where near his flawless presentation but it will be a good challenge for myself.

His work is inspiring, at least to me. I’m guessing i’ll be using some photoshop too for certain elements. Wish me luck.

Obviously he used more than AE – Photoshop for images and elemets at least – but once you have those elements you CAN do it in AE.

The photograph at the end and the hallway are also references to The Shining….he’s got a little Psycho in there too.

    I prefer this video.

It seems to me his work is very polished but only has one style. Watch all his clips and count how many times you see the same thing used over and over. Same splatters, same scribbled text, same animated camera motions, same photoshop design, same gaussian blur effect, even the same style of textures. He uses track mattes very nicely and has a mastery of trapcode products, but his work isn’t conceptually phenomenal. This may sound very high minded but I don’t think he is any better than many of the other animators I’ve seen posting here at creativecow.net.

Yes. And the 2 girls in The Shining were originally inspired by a Diane Arbus photograph that featured 2 girls who, in spite of not having the context of a horror film to give us any clues, were still really spooky all by themselves.
