Stick with the Black edition as the Green ones will go to sleep on you – when you least expect it 🙂

I use green drives but strictly as backup as they go to sleep after about 5 minutes.

Some green drives spin at a lower speed like 5400 rpm and I have seen some non-green drives spin at 5900 rpm. So long as the data transfer rate is unaffected, the slower spinning drives in theory should run cooler.

My system specs: Intel i7 970, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10e (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6

For what it’s worth, Microcenter has Barracuda 2TB drives on sale for $109 through Monday.

I have about ten Barracuda drives in use here, some 1TB and some 2TB, and haven’t had a drive failure in ten years. (Every project gets it’s own drive and I just drop the drive into the external docking station and edit).
