    I’ve decided to build a new machine for Vegas and other processing. I visited microcenter, and the following system was recommended by the guy I talked with there;

    i7 950
    ASUS P6X58D PREM S1366 ATX
    2 Corsair corei7 3x2GB 1600 Domin
    Seagate 1TB 3.5″ SATA 7200rpm hdd
    WD 500GB 3.5″ int sata
    Win 7 Pro 64bit
    Corsair 800W ATXV2.3 80+ PSU
    ATI HD5670 Video card
    2 DVD burners
Coolmast HAF922M HAF MINI ATX case

They also recommended, but forgot to include, an 80GB flash drive to function as the system drive. I requested the ATI video card for color management functions.

I would love feedback on the recommended hardware. Thanks.

I hope you mean a 80 gig solid state for the OS, and I would not get the ATI card, but a NVidea with Cuda based GPU video card. These cards are supported with Vegas 10 Pro and for the first time, Vegas uses GPU on a video card. also get a second sata hard drive and capture and store all your media on it. Not good to use the same hard drive for your media and the OS. Other than that the machine is almost the same as mine. Danny Hays, Universal Studios, FL

    Bob,

Mine is almost like that, same MB, i7 920 instead of 950. I have 2 GTX 260 Nvidia cards. I opted to get an SSD (60GB) and it is fast. You might want to look up how much all these parts would cost you along with an OEM of windows 7 Pro 64, on newegg.com. I’ll bet you could learn how to assemble and install for the difference in price.

Remember to cool that CPU! I use a Zalman CNPS10X and plenty of case fanage.

Jeff, Are you running Vegas Pro 10? If so do those particular NVidia cards Have the Cuda based GPU and do you have Vegas using it yet? There’s several people that would like to see someone using the GPU cards and tell us the difference in render speeds, preview frame refresh ect… Thanks, Danny Hays

    Danny,

I am using 10, and yes, the cards have 192 cuda cores each. It is an older card (>6 months ha ha) I will run some comparisons tomorrow.

    Jeff

    GPU Engine Specs:
    CUDA Cores 192
    Graphics Clock (MHz) 576 MHz
    Processor Clock (MHz) 1242 MHz
    Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 36.9

    Memory Specs:
    Memory Clock (MHz) 999
    Standard Memory Config 896 MB
    Memory Interface Width 448-bit
    Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 111.9

    OK guys,

I did a render test on a project that had 24 tracks, 31 pieces of media, alpha channels, compositing, parent motion, gradient fades, etc.

I had an amazing 76% speed increase on Vegas 10a over 9e. It almost cut the time in half. I tested a few times and averaged the results.

I was as fair as I could be with both versions, same project, template, destination. I am impressed.
