Is there anything to be gained from going to ProRes(HQ)
I’ve just picture locked a feature film shot on the Canon 7D. We imported using ProRes(LT) and we are going to grade in Apple’s Colour. It has been suggested that we re-import to ProRes(HQ) for the grade, but that has proved problematic due to a number of issues (too many to go into here)
My question is this: Given that ProRes(LT) is actually a better data rate than the original H264 files from the camera, would we really gain anything in going up to ProRes(HQ)?

Nope. HQ is designed for 10-bit codecs like RED and AVCINTRA. H.264 is 8-bit…ProRes 422 would be the best you can get. but it and LT are VERY close. Virtually indistinguishable.

I usually use Magic Bullet Looks for grading. What Kind of problems are you experiencing with Colour because if they’re pretty unreconcilable I would just use Pro Res LT, especially with 7D footage.
