Is there a way to easily compare the differences between audio mixes?
A client handed me a complete mess of a legacy Final Cut Pro 7 project, along with a DVD allegedly representing one of the many sequences (all named things like “Untitled 1”, “untiled 12”, “Untitled 15 Final”, “Untitled 15 Final v2”, etc.) and I need to figure out which one of these sequences matches the mix used on the DVD.
If I were doing this for a video track, I would simply rip the DVD to a Quicktime file, then compare the self-contained QT file to each FCP sequence by changing the Blend Mode of the DVD-rip QT to “Difference”…any differences between the two sequences would be made immediately visible.
But in this case, I need to compare the content of the audio tracks. Because these videos are in excess of 90 minutes long, I would obviously prefer to do this without having to listen to mixes separately, or by carefully scrutinizing the audio waveforms for any differences.
Is there a simple way to do this? I’m on Mac OS X, and use the Adobe CC suite. Any help is appreciated!
