  • Is there a software that could read timeline without an editing package?

    Hi

At the end of every project I need to supply an edl for the researchers to sort archive footage out, so that they can order the master tapes to re-place edit for online.

Is there some kind of FCP software that would allow one to view timelines and identify shots and sources to bypass the edl.

Do you know of any software that allows this facility without the editing package, I heard that there are free downloads?

    Thanks

Output your sequence as a Quicktime Movie with visible TC.

    Thanks for the reply.

I normally give them a Quicktime with Burnt in timecode. But they want to be able to see he whole timeline to get things accurate and also acces to the footage
I was thinking about suggesting them to get a mini MAC and give them the consolidated project.

Would mac minimac be capable of running FCP5 mainly to watch consolidated projects not for editing.

    Thanks

    Zee.

    Hi Zeliha

A mac-mini should be fine for this … but its an expensive investment if solely for this one purpose (considering both the cost of the mini + the cost of fcp)
Perhaps a quicktime movie as but with rather more decriptive BITC (burnt in time code) might be the answer.

Pick up the demo of “1z1 tools” as collection of FCP filters from 1z1screenworks at https://www.1z1.at/plugins/
This demo set includes a number of free filters, including the “Display Source TC” plugin ( https://www.1z1.at/plugins/#displaysourcetc ) which seems like it might be more useful to you than FCP’s built in TC filter.

    Hope it helps
