    Hi is there a way to get Red to use motion estimation to create an animated matte?

    I don’t think Red has that capability from what I’ve seen.

    I guess what I’m after is ‘auto rotoscoping’.

    It all depends on the footage you’re working with but you might want to play around with the hue/saturation filter, levels filter and contrast filter to turn your footage in a high contrast picture and then apply the make alpha filter…
    You might need to use a garbage mask also.
    I’ve tried this recipe a few times and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t; it all depends on the footage.
    Might be worth a shot to you, though.
