I’m trying to slip a 4:3 clip into an anamorphic 16:9 project filled with 16:9 clips. So far, the only thing I have figured out is that if I set my 4:3 clip to 133% scale and a 25 aspect ratio, it more or less fits the rest of the footage.

EXCEPT that it’s now blurry and not as good a quality as at 100% scale (obviously).

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some magic bullet I’m missing to make the 4:3 look as good on the canvas as the rest of my 16:9 clips?? Did I do something wrong with the aspect ratio, for instance?

Check the results on a monitor, and it could look better, and make sure in FCP5 scaling is set to high quality.

Because you’re throwing information away in the up-scaling, there’s little that can be done. I am working on an enhanced scaling solution, but it’s taking longer than I thought…..
