  • Is there a “Glint” filter in FCP?

Posted by Bill Thomas on May 13, 2009 at 3:09 pm

OK, I probably have the term wrong, but I’m looking for a filter (preferably inside FCP) that will give me a glint on an object.
My best example would be those toothpaste commercials where someone smiles and there’s a quick star-filter type of twinkle on their teeth.
I actually need it to put some glint on jewelry footage that someone gave me that DOESN’T have any reflective highlights.

I tried the Dazzle filter in Motion, but that one requires that I have at least some pinpoint light.

    Thanks all….

There’s are glint filters in FX Factory and in Boris Continuum Complete, and there are others, but I don’t think one comes with FCP.

Nattress Big Box of Tricks has a nice lens flare, mabey that would work and it’s cheap.

    Have a wonderful day.

You can create a starburst shape in Photoshop using whatever color you want the glint to be. Drop that into your timeline and keyframe the rotation, opacity, etc, to get the look you want.

Well yes, Mike’s suggestion will work, but it is very difficult to do as well as a real glint filter, it needs some glow added to it to make it look right and it must be superbly crafted in Photoshop. Otherwise it will look like a Pepsident commercial from the 50’s.

    Have a wonderful day.

And use Modify > Composite Modes > Screen to composite the lens flare onto your piece.

I have one in LiveType but I have the 12″ expansion packs and can’t remember if they came in that. Not in front of my machine right now so I can’t look but you might look there!
