Is the latest 27″ Retina Display iMac Yosemite able to run Symphony 8.2?
Posted by Tony Breuer on November 25, 2014 at 11:53 pmI want to upgrade my old symphony 6.0.4 but the computer matrix on teh Avid website only lists the new MAC Pro.
Does anyone know?
Thanks a bunch.

November 26, 2014 at 5:57 pmIt’ll run it. The latest MacBook Pros will, the MacMinis…

November 26, 2014 at 8:06 pmThanks, Shane. I wasn’t sure because it wasn’t on the authorized list on the Avid website. And also because on the Apple store site it doesn’t let me build a custom machine and the ram is only 8 gigs.
I have a call in to a business rep at the nearest Apple retail store in Albany, NY.
Thanks for your help. You are really generous with your time and advice.

November 26, 2014 at 8:12 pmOnly 8GB? What is Apple doing? Lordy…making machines more and more consumer..pushing pros away. Might want to look at PCs. I KNow…it’s windows. But Avid runs better on windows anyway. I say this as a die hard Apple fan too..not a big fan of Windows. But I’m thinking my next machine for Avid might have to be one…

November 26, 2014 at 8:24 pmYup, only 8 GB. I went online last night and again just now and there was no “SELECT” button. Only a “BUY NOW” button.

November 26, 2014 at 8:27 pmOOPS! I just clicked the “BUY NOW” button and it’s giving me options.
Whew! Had me worried i would have to buy a PC. A lot of my software is MAC only.
Thanks again, Shane.

November 26, 2014 at 8:31 pmWould you max out the Radeon to 4GB or is that overkill?
I’m maxing out the ram and going with a 3tb fusion drive.

November 26, 2014 at 8:37 pmAvid doesn’t leverage the GPU much at all. So it depends on the other apps you use…if you need it.

November 26, 2014 at 8:43 pmThat’s what I thought. That’s why I’m going with the iMac instead of the MAC Pro. But if it;s only $250 more for the better Radeon I may go with it. Cheaper than upgrading in six months or a year. 😉
