  • Is subtitle text box auto-size possible in DVDA?

Posted by Fred Robinson on August 12, 2010 at 8:09 am

In my movie, I am adding a black background to the subtitles in DVDA. Trouble is, the text box is always set to the widest it is allowed to be. How can I make it auto-size (horizontally), based on how long the subtitle is?

Trouble with how it is working now is that someone might say ‘Hi!’, but the film suffers a black bar almost all the way across the screen to accommodate it.

    Thanks,

    Fred

I’m not sure here, but I think if you were to add a one letter subtitle event with the letter “a” as the text, then make the box as small as you want in order to surround it, center horiz, and vert, then apply formatting to all selected tracks, it should extend the size as big as it is needed for the separate events. Try it!

    I like your thinking.

    So – I tried it…

…it half worked. But instead of all the boxes being different sizes depending on the length of the text, they all became the width of the one I altered. Consequently, long sentences cover 8 or 9 rows. lol.

I guess I’m gonna have to go through all 440 boxes manually.

Maybe this could be a feature to add to 9f or 10? PLEASE!!!

    Thanks anyway Jeff. 🙁
