No, you don’t need to have the pro version of quicktime to be able to work with Vegas

Keep in mind that if you want to import MOV files or anything from iTunes, you will need it.
There is an app called QuickTime Alternative that is supposed to work but, as I use the free version of QuickTime, I’ve never had a need for it.

Thanks Mike. Yes, I will need to import MOV files. So I’ll pick it up.

Just remember that all you need is the free player from Apple, not the paid one.

Ah, that’s really what I was asking. The paid one is QT Pro. The free one is QT. So QT Pro is NOT needed for importing MOV files. Thx. I’ll try out moving some MOVs in today (G).

As you’re doing the installation, please make sure to check all the file associations as QuickTime will automatically associate itself with files that you may not want it to.

Hi… I just recently bought a new quad core computer and installed Vegas. I shot a test with my panasonic HD and imported the footage into the timeline. When i preview on the prev screen it gets really choppy as if it cant take it. But when i watch it on Windows Media Player it plays fine. Its def something within Vegas that I’m missing.

Vince, what’s the model of the “panasonic HD” and what size (in pixels) and type of files do you get from it (mov, mp4, etc.)?

Vince, mp4 files (especially HD ones like you’re using) are known to slow Vegas down considerably unless you’re using proxies.
I stand to be corrected but I think NeoScene from Cineform is a good tool to check out.
