Is ProRes needed?
Hi
ProRes used to be recommended as an editing codec. The reason being that real time playback in an nle was possible. I am now editing all my multicam projects directly in the native camera codec with Resolve 16 Studio. There is no need to transcode to ProRes. In fact the extra file size is a real problem with 20 cameras!
Many new cameras now offer ProRes as the acquisition format. Is this an advantage today?

Which is also true in many cases. It depends on your computer resources amongst other things.
Yes. But it depends. H.264 can be 10 bit 4:2:2 and can even be all IFrame.
If you’re going to push the grade ProRes is better. ProRes RAW or other RAW formats may be preferred.
I shoot both Sony XAVC-L and Blackmagic ProRes (I could use BRaw if I needed) cameras. In 4K I’d prefer ProRes. It’s not necessary unless I’m pushing things though.
