Is progressive scan DVD the best
After reading many postings about which output file type is best I get the distinct impression that if both your DVD player & TV can handle it when the best results should be from a progressive scan. If this is indeed the case how does one ensure that files from Vegas 6 are made this way? I have in the past created an MPEG2 file in Vegas only to find that DVDA3 wants to recode the file which would defeat trying to do this. Can DVDA3 create a DVD with progressive scan files? I have noticed that Vegas allows you to specify if you want progressive scan or not but DVDA apparently doesn’t. Does this mean that DVDA will recode ever MPEG2 file whither or not it’s a compliant MPEG2 file? If DVDA is capable of creating a progressive scan DVD what would it do if you had a mixture of interlaced & progressive files imported into DVDA?

If your source is HDi delivered on SD then progressive scan is generally the best option. If your source is HD progressive and your delivery is SD, then progressive is generally your best option.
If your source is HD progressive to BD, progressive is generally you best option.
If your source is HDi, and your delivery is BD or 1080HD, then you’re likely best to stick with interlaced. You’re going to lose up to 30% of your detail if you convert 1080i to 1080p.
I don’t recall how DVDA 3 manages progressive. 4/5 handle it just fine, no reencode, but I don’t recall 3 needing to reencode either. Most of our DVDs are delivered progressive.Douglas Spotted Eagle
