[Lee Berger] “By the way add Deadliest Catch to the list of disposable camera shows.”

Yep and Ice Road Truckers on the History Channel. All produced by Original Productions and my old boss at Turner Broadcasting, Thom Beers.

[Lee Berger] “Interestingly enough this season of Survivor Man (Discovery Channel) is shot entirely on HDV. Sometimes content is king and codec is Queen.”

Discovery has varying levels of HD. Gold Standard, Silver, and Bronze.

Gold standard means you can ONLY shoot with HDCAM or Varicam, and at most 10% HVX-200…NO HDV.

Silver Standard is main camera HDCAM or Varicam, and 25% can be HVX or HDV.

Bronze is a show that is all HVX or HDV.

I hate to say it, but Ice Road Truckers was the WORSE THING that could happen to the History Channel. Not saying that it wasn’t a good show, but how on earth does it end up on the History Channel? It isn’t the LEAST BIT historical. Discovery, yes. History…no. It’s because the new President of History came from A&E and is calling for more shows to bring in a younger audience and get more advertising dollars. Turning a channel into something that it isn’t.

Sorry..hit a sour chord with me. Again, it is a fine show, just not a HIstory show.

Yep, totally agree with you there. No reason to be on the History Channel at all, should have been on TLC probably as it fits better with shows like American Chopper.

Probably Thom has too many shows on Discovery / TLC so they might have passed on it.
