  • Is Preference Manager Hinting at Changes in FCP X?

Posted by Gerry Fraiberg on September 16, 2013 at 9:12 pm

I just downloaded the latest version of Preference Manager, and there is a setting for Window Layouts. I don’t remember if this was in the previous version. Is this setting the stage for customizable window layouts in an upcoming version of FCP X?

I’ve got 3.2.3 (from a few months ago), it has:
    PREFERENCES
    WINDOW LAYOUTS
    KEYBOARD LAYOUTS
    …nothing new.

User Destinations / Color Presets seem to be new.

Thanks for the confirmation, Al. Guess we’ll just have to wait to see what the next version will bring.

I highly doubt any third-party software developer is actually privy to this info.

Some are, definitely. In the past guys like Blackmagic and Intelligent Assistance have gotten early access to FCPXML for workflow integration.

There’s layouts, you just don’t manually save them. They are automatically saved. Sound familiar? 😉

Library > Application Support > Final Cut Pro > Layouts

If you change something (like open the Event Viewer, or add scopes to a viewer, or go dual screen) then quit FCPX, that layout is stored in a file automatically.

Pref Manager can save those if you need it.

That would explain it then, Jeremy. Maybe I was reading too much into this.

No! My guess is that FCPX feature will get beefed up along with the better dual monitor support of Mavericks. And once it does, Pref Manager will be ready for it as the “frame work” is already there.

Speaking of monitor layouts, I am also hoping for some AirPlay integration. AirPlay is amazing to me. It is a feature that does not get talked abut much, but what a convenient method of getting media to screen for preview.

Now who is reading too much in to this?

    🙂

Before there was any monitoring support, I had predicted than it would first be implemented via airplay and AppleTV. I was wrong. But sure would be a great feature.

    [Bret Williams] ” I was wrong. “

    We are all winners here.
