  • Is PPro thread-optimized software?

Posted by Rich Rosen on April 29, 2005 at 5:14 pm

Trying to ascertain if Intel cpu’s are faster than AMD cpus for rendering in 1.5. And if dual core AMD’s will be just as fast as Intel dual cores. Anyone know?

I’ve heard that Photoshop, etc. takes full advantage of dual core, but PPro does not. Getting very conflicting messages. Does Adobe make any firm statements on the issue? Have they ever admitted to have optimized PPro for Intel? Thanks.

I read a report somewhere, that the dual core processors will increase the rendering time of Premiere Pro by 57%. I’ll see if I can find it.

    My apologies, 59% increase:

[Aanarav Sareen] “dual core processors will increase the rendering time “

I think you mean decrease the rendering time (increase rendering speed). At least that is what I got from the OCP review you referred to. In the encoding department the results look very impressive. However I can’t find a a dual core i955X motherboard with more than two PCI express slots. Maybe in the future?

Too many typos today! Yes I meant decrease the rendering time. Personally, I would wait, and purchase the second gen dual core processors.

AMAZING that the dual core review says video editing/encoding will benefit MOST from the new technology. That’s the good news. Bad news is most the cpu’s will cost $1,000 initially.
