I’m considering buying after effects 7, but i’m wondering if it will run OK on my PC.
It is an HP Desktop running XP, Pentium4 CPU 2.40ghz, with 1.24gig of ram.
Ive got 5.82 gig of disk space left on my 37.2gig hard disk.

What would performance be like for creating and editing nice effects and motion graphics?
I am used to seeing someone else [and sometimes myself] work on a G5 MAC with apple’s Motion2 – I’m hoping for something ‘reasonably’ comparable, so I can take on some of the video editing / compositing workload.

Would I ‘NEED’ to get a new PC?

Thanks for any help that you can give – I appreciate it!

the best way to know is to download the free trial, and try it out…

as far as trying to compare performance between ae and motion, that’s really tough, motion’s render enging is based on opengl, it is very fast with a good gfx card (although that acceleartion is subject to the limitations of opengl). ae does get a boost for some effects with opengl, but most of it is processor based rendering, and ae is really not trying to provide realtime interaction the way motion does.

but try out ae and decide for yourself. i think ae is a great tool to use with motion, i feel ae is a better compositor and there are more effects and plugins available. you can really use the strengths of both programs, imho.

    Thanks for the responses!
It’s really helpful to me to have others who’ve ‘been there’ give advice
