  • is Motion the new AE?

I just saw the Motion Quicktime Tour, wow.
I’m not excited about learning more software… I’ve a decent handle on AE, but, would I benifit from learning Motion?
Does it intergrate with Final Cut faster or better than AE?
    Can It replace AE?
I use AE to sweeten stuff for cable TV, effects, some CG work…

    Thanks

[blakep] “would I benifit from learning Motion?”

I think so. For many projects, I still use AE. But Motion has given me the option of approaching things in a new way which makes it good for some projects.

Motion isn’t as robust as AE, meaning it still has some bugs in it.

It can. Depends on if you want to render in FCP or Motion.

    For what? Maybe.

Just a hint. Don’t use Motion like you use AE (keyframes). Learn how to start with behaviors and then add keyframes if you need them.

totally- don’t get stuck in a key-frame of mind. That’s the quickest way to waste a lot of extra time you can save in Motion with behaviors. They can do just about anything key frames can do but a lot faster and more interactive.

    Motion is NOT AE.
The integration between the FCS apps is a bit clumsy compared to the Adobe Suite so don’t expect the same type of gratification. Apple’s hype on the FCS2 package is way overblown. Way too many gotchas. Your gratification in Motion comes in different places and in different ways. It’s fun and exciting and terribly frustrating (What? No Bevel Alpha? No Mask Stroke? Puhleeze.) all at the same time.

I like it, I hate it. Right at this very instant, I loathe it with all my heart and soul and I wish awful things on the monkeys who built it. Yesterday, I was in total Motion Love Mode. Tomorrow? Tomorrow I’m off.
