    Hi

On more than one occasion I have attempted to send a seriers of clips to motion and to composite them. and each time its like its broken!

Many of the things the manual sez it can do it cant or only does em halfway

for example, i have three layers. I want to keep the bottom one and fade in the top 2 over it. both of the top 2 are masked to make a splut screen. the top 2 also have the fade in out behavior

    this is waht happens:

i cant see my mask on the top layer unless my middle layer is off, and when my top 2 layers are masked, the bottom layer cuts out, the middle layer cuts in, and the top layer fades. preserve opacity doent help, as it seems to be doing the opposite. I am doing simple add compositeing as well

does this sound like normal issues ie learning curve? or is this thing broken? (i have been doing this thing long enough to know that these kind of flakiness can be learning curve, but this seems too flaky!)

    thanx

    fcp5.0.4

    mac 10.4.3

    Hi Again

I found out what was going on. i had the bottom layer in intersect instead of normal

    that seemed to fix it

HOWEVER i would like to know what, if any, the Gotchas are with motion, as i want to use it more and dont want to get bogged down because of some oversight on my part

    thanx

I have had very good success with the software doing composites similar to what you are describing and more complex. It sounds like you could be having an issue with what layers you have the masks applied to…not sure. you could try making sure that they are three distinct layers instead of 3 pieces of video in one. Having said that, there are definitely some buggy issues with the program, but many of these can be worked around or solved by quit/restart. Motion is only on version 2 and I think the kinks are still being worked out. good luck.
