  • Is it worth swapping a 285 for 470?

Posted by Colin Travers on January 10, 2012 at 4:27 am

    Hello

I have followed some of the recent post about the more powerful cards available and I am curious about what I need to consider before potentially swapping out my 285 mac version (tekserve open box deal) for a flashed 470 or whatever other beefier cards people are updating to. I dont currently have the need or money to get an expander involved.

thank you in advance for advice.

See my current home setup below:

    DaVinci 8.1.1 OSX 10.6.8
    MacPro 12-core 5,1 2.66 Ghz
    32GB RAM (x4 owc 8gb sticks)
    RAID0 8TB
    Nvidia GT120/GTX285
    BMD Extreme3D
    HDlink3D DisplayPort
    Dreamcolor/Panny VT25
    Tangent Wave / Wacom

    Drivers:
    Nvidia Cuda 4.0.50
    DecklinkExtreme3D 8.6
    HDLink3D DisplayPort 3.5.1

What about power drain or any other things I will have to consider if I swap them out?

Also where to purchase – no response from macvidcards.

    Thank you
